Cold, Lukewarm, and Hot — What Do They Mean?

The “cold” soul is not beyond hope. Often, it’s a soul caught in deception or deep confusion — far from God, yet still carrying a spark of longing for truth.
To these, God’s Word comes like a sword of fire, cutting through lies and revealing light. And if they respond, repent, and embrace truth — they will be saved from the second death.
But the lukewarm soul is something different.
It no longer responds. It no longer fears, loves, or burns with desire for God.It drifts along in a quiet coma of habit, routine, and spiritual numbness.
This soul may still speak of faith, may even attend church, but its fire is gone. It no longer belongs to God — and it's not even useful to the enemy. There's no inner war to win, no passion to rescue — just dull, deadly apathy.
It’s the most tragic state of all.
A soul like that is like dry straw:– not useful for food,– not strong enough for building,– only fit for the fire.
“The One who comes after me is more powerful than I,whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will clear His threshing floor, gathering His wheat into the barnand burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”— Matthew 3:11–12
This is a wake-up call to believers in every generation — but especially ours.Don’t settle into lukewarm religion.Let your heart burn again. Let repentance, reverence, and real love for Christ awaken in you.
The fire of the Holy Spirit is not just for the early Church — it’s for now.And God is still calling His people to be hot — alive, bold, and fully surrendered.
