From the dawn of history until now, humanity has witnessed the tragedy of slavery—whether in chains, servitude, or systems that bind the soul. These are all links in the same chain: lives limited, decisions controlled, and truth hidden by those who seek to dominate.
But Jesus Christ came to break the chain.
He said:
“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.”—John 15:14–15
You see, the journey from slavery to freedom begins with a renewed mind. When our eyes are opened, and our hearts align with His Word, freedom is born—a spiritual liberty no man or system can take away.
Paul declared:
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”—2 Corinthians 3:17–18
Jesus didn’t come to create religious servants—He came to raise sons and daughters,to fill us with His Spirit, and set us free from sin and fear.
He said plainly:
“Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.”—John 8:34
But He also said:
“If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed.”—John 8:36
This transformation comes not through effort, but through rebirth—by the Spirit and by the Word. And it leads us into a new kind of life, one that is led not by the flesh, but by the Spirit of God.
Now, we know that life is not easy.We make mistakes. We face trials, uncertainties, and hard choices. We are bound by physical needs, cultural pressures, and daily responsibilities. We must work, we must provide, and we must endure.
But listen, friend: Jesus understands.
He walked this earth. He tasted hunger. He felt sorrow. He carried the weight of humanity’s pain. And because of that, He does not expect perfection—but He does offer a gift.
A gift that changes everything.
Once we receive that gift—the indwelling of the Holy Spirit—our flesh takes a back seat. And our soul and spirit begin to rise. This is the hidden mystery of transformation—the secret behind the promise:
“We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed.”—1 Corinthians 15:51
The Apostle Paul cried out:
“O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!”—Romans 7:24–25
He went on to say:
“So then, with my mind I serve the law of God, but with my flesh the law of sin. There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.”—Romans 8:1–2
That’s the difference between a slave and a free man.
The slave lives in darkness, chained by sin.The free man walks in light, led by the Spirit of the Living God.
Friend, Jesus didn’t come to put you in religious bondage. He came to make you whole. To fill you.To set you free.
Amen.
